Artist Profile
I haven’t strayed far from my beginnings, as a native of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, presently residing in Clifton Royal on the Kingston Peninsula about 40km, as the crow flies, from my beginnings. I was born with a pencil (in lieu of a silver spoon) and had no other ambitions but to be an artist. Because of the lack of that silver spoon, my main artistic inspiration was to find employment.

I studied Fine & Applied Art at Saint John Vocational School, instruction from Ted Campbell and Fred Ross, and worked in newspaper advertising in Saint John and Halifax. I am mainly self taught in the two mediums I prefer... oils and watercolour.

As a freelance illustrator my renderings were mainly drawing with graphite, ink and watercolour. It has only been since I turned seventy that I have been painting in oils, a medium of which I was always fearful. Since I’ve been working in oils I have been exhibiting with reasonable results at the Cathedral Art Show & Sale, the Rothesay Netherwood School Art Show & Sale, the Kings Country Studio Tour and the Summerville Art Festival.

Over the years my work has been collected both publicly and privately, nationally and internationally. Presently, the Kings County Studio Tour group is the only organization in which I am actively involved.

2019 wasn’t my favourite year health wise, so I was ahead of most in this isolation game! I am, however, with a serious vision restriction, working at putting paint to paper, trying out new paints, drawing with chalk, and enjoying the process of losing myself in doing the one thing I’ve always done relatively well.
